MANCHESTER, NH — Three years after returning to Manchester School District to serve as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, David Ryan has announced he will be leaving at the end of the 2017 school year.
“I am looking forward to my next challenge. I am grateful for all I have learned while working in Manchester. I am considering several professional opportunities at this time,” said Ryan, in a statement late Tuesday.
Ryan’s departure follows the exodus of West Principal Chris Motika, who came to Manchester at the same time as Ryan, in 2013, when Ryan was serving as principal of Nashua North High School, and Dr. Debra Livingston, who retired as of Oct. 1. Motika has since taken a position working as Administrator, Bureau of Integrated Programs, for the state board of education, and Livingston was replaced by Dr. Bolgen Vargas.
During his time in Nashua, Ryan was recognized as the 2012 Charles A. Napoli New Hampshire State Principal of the Year and one of three 2013 NASSP/MetLife National Principal of the Year Finalists.
As a 2009 Phi Delta Kappa Emerging Leader Ryan led his school through its first New
England Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation, reduced it failure and drop-out rates significantly, and increased the number of students enrolling in two- and four-year colleges upon graduation.
Prior to that, Ryan served as an assistant principal at Manchester High School Central from 2000-2006, and is a member of the National Principals Advisory Panel for the College Board. He sits on the Advisory Board of the School of Education at Southern New Hampshire University.
